At K’dara, one of the biggest virtues that we hold true are being kind, and spreading positivity to women. Our utmost goal is to deliver quality products and inspire and motivate those who may need it most. So, this past week, the K’dara team went to Skid Row, a neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles with a large homeless population to donate to the women a wellness bag, filled with materials and goodies that will help and hopefully make them smile.
In Skid Row, the people there are mainly impoverished and homeless, taking to the streets. The community that lives there go through extremely hard times, especially the women, and it’s important for us to take a step back and help in any way that we can. Luckily, there are many organizations and groups that are there to help and make sure that a majority of the residents there have access to food, water, and other daily necessities. So, the K’dara team partnered with Water Drop LA, a local organization dedicated to delivering 2,000+ gallons of water every week to the community. Their group of 30+ volunteers were very welcoming and helped immensely with our mission for the day.
In the wellness bags, we packaged together an assortment of snacks and materials women could use and hopefully benefit from. Each bag contained a few packaged snacks, most donated by small women-run businesses like Bears & Bells Baked Goods and Carmen’s Yasquesita that we worked with various local grocery stories together. Also, they contained materials such as masks and sanitizing wipes, since the pandemic in still happening. It is hard for Skid Row occupants to have access to items for protecting themselves against Viruses.
Also, we added practical self breast examination information, as many of the women in Skid Row don’t have access to healthcare facilities. This leads to them not being able to check for possible breast cancer. Saalt, a clean and sustainable company specializing in reusable menstrual cups, donated a kind offering of cups to give out to the women! Similarly, we even included a few motivational sayings and phrases to hopefully inspire and be there when they need it. All together, the team packaged and gave out 500 wellness bags.
In summary, these women that live on Skid Row go through so much with scarce access to resources. We truly care and feel for them tremendously. Taking our time to be in their community and seeing how strong these women was moving for our team. They are fighting battles on many levels. Being able to help and bring comfort with self-care and kindness made the team feel happy about giving back. The K’dara team is here for the Skid Row community and we can’t wait to go back and help more!
